Pitt Meadows’s only steel and concrete high-rise is a ten storey, 185,000 SF building comprised of 144 residential units plus 20,000 SF of commercial space. The project boasts stunning panoramic views and fully developed recreational properties including street level shops, a recreational centre and a library. A central courtyard is available for public use as well.
Glotman•Simpson faced some challenges with this particular project, specifically with poor soil bearing capacity and settlement issues. To address these structural issues, a raft foundation was used in combination with lightweight tower floor construction consisting of structural steel framing with composite open web steel joists (Hambro) to limit building settlement.
Meadows Gate was designed to LEED building principles as seen in the use of energy efficient low-E glass windows that retain heat in the winter, keep the building cool in the warmer months, and allow for better insulation and thermal performance.
