Not content to simply work within the limitations of existing software, GlotmanSimpson developed the Tekla 3-S Structural Steel Modeling software. Created for the Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion project, we found a way to interface the existing Tekla 3-D model with structural design analysis software and conventional AutoCAD drawings. The resulting Tekla model was then passed along to the to the Structural Steel Contractor which allowed them to provide more accurate costing, material procurement and preparation of shop drawings, resulting in dramatic time and cost savings to the owner.


Our firm has been an industry leader in developing REVIT Structure Building Information Modeling (BIM) within our practice. REVIT has been an important part of our design process and we are pleased to have played an active role in the development of this technology. Since its release in 2005, we have undertaken to design several large projects utilizing REVIT Structure, in some cases, collaborating with architects also using this platform and we continue to work closely with Autodesk to expand and enhance the remarkable capabilities of this software.

Using REVIT Structure gives GlotmanSimpson a strategic, competitive advantage over other firms and allows for better coordination with project teams. Using this solution, we are able to ensure complete, accurate designs, while providing our clients with a high level of service. GlotmanSimpson is able to provide accurate information to clients directly from the model and quickly respond to any requests for design changes, allowing our clients to make informed decisions, faster. With REVIT, every single component of a complicated building project is included in a 3-D virtual model for architects, engineers and trades people to extract, study and modify prior to construction. The project team is able to compare a wide range of approaches to any given structural problem at the design stage and to make any necessary changes, saving time and money.

Our firm utilizes REVIT Structure on virtually all of our projects including the recent UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences building, The Erickson, Kettner and Grape (San Diego), and the Woodwards Redevelopment project. Current projects utilizing full BIM project delivery include Vancouver House, the Haida Gwaii Hospital Replacement Project (P3), and TELUS Sky in Calgary.
