Gibsons Elementary School Rebuild

Gibsons B.C. ● Academic

Initially, Gibsons Elementary School was to undergo a seismic upgrade only; however, a 2007 Feasibility Plan showed constructing a smaller, more energy-efficient school would be much more cost effective in the long run.

The rebuild groups classrooms in a wing that can be secured from the rest of the school. This allows the gym, multi-use rooms, and NLC spaces to function independently after-hours, offering facilities to the Gibson’s community.

Gibson’s Elementary School is LEED Gold Certified. Glazing allows for excellent use of natural light into the building and wood was used extensively throughout for the structure and finishes, satisfying the requirements for the Wood First Act 2009. The project also features garden plots for students and the community, and a terraced area for educational programs.
