Developed by Westbank and designed by Henriquez Partners, the M5 development is a hybrid Mass Timber residential development, located within the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Vancouver, BC. M5 will be 25-storeys and will consist of approximately 217,000 SF and provide 210 units of secured purpose-built rental housing, including below-market rental housing to Vancouver.
One of the main objectives with this project is to find the most efficient way to reduce embodied carbon and the development is targeting a Net-Zero Carbon Lifecycle. M5 will offer enhanced bike facilities to help encourage + foster an active bike culture, and there will be no vehicle parking for residents within the development. M5 is set to connect to the Southeast False Creek Neighbourhood Energy Utility which will provide low carbon heating for both hot water and residential spaces.
The ultimate target goal for this project is ensuring the building has potential for actual carbon reductions and that the building has the same net impact as if the building had never been built.
