6344 Fountain Avenue is a 4-story commercial office building with three levels of new core and shell office space encompassing approximately 50,000 SF. The building is a hybrid system, that utilizes a steel gravity frame with wide flange beams overlaid by CLT panels. In this building, CLT functions not only as the gravity floor system but also a diaphragm system. This is the first building in the City of Los Angeles that gained approval for CLT as a diaphragm system.
As the building is a non-rated building variety, the structural system of the building is expressed throughout the interior of the building so attention to detail was crucial. To achieve well delineated structural lines and clean soffits, much effort was given to the vertical and horizontal alignments of framing members.
