The 3-storey, 141,000 SF Handsworth Secondary project is a complete replacement of the existing school in North Vancouver. The new, improved and seismically safe facility will include extensive facilities including classrooms, a library, administration offices, multi-purpose room, a lunch servery, tech education shops, black-box theatre, and three connected gyms with change rooms and storage rooms.
The grand commons in the new school is a 3-storey light-filled atrium that will serve as the heart of the school. Two central corridors will branch out from either side of this space, and the theatre, administration offices, lunch servery, and learning commons will open directly onto the grand commons. Corridors on the second and third floors will also terminate at an overlook down into the commons, tying all areas of the building together.
