Described as the fi nest and most exclusive Whistler luxury boutique hotel, Nita Lake Lodge’s naturally tranquil position and distinctive architecture sets it apart from other resorts. The 77 guest room resort covers 100,000 square feet, includes a transport interchange and involved a complex rezoning process in a sensitive environmental location. The building has expansive green roofs which are utilized by the chefs to provide fresh herbs and vegetables for the dining services. The Loka Wellness and Yoga Centre at Nita Lake Lodge opened in December 2008 and welcomes visitors with a relaxing wilderness experience.
From an engineering perspective there were challenges deriving from the soft lakefront soil, so cast-in-place concrete piles were used to support the heavy timber and steel structure. The unusual canopy includes green roofing, and was designed to withhold extreme snow loads. The long span bridge to the golf course was another challenge, providing important access over a steep ravine.
